Social Impact Bonds

Learn more about SIBs globally:

The Social Finance UK website has created an interactive map to find information about Impact Bonds launched and in development worldwide.

Since 2014, Brookings has developed and maintained a comprehensive database on the global impact bonds market.

A social impact bond (SIB) is an innovative tool for funding social services.

SIBs bring together government, service providers and investors / funders to implement innovative and proven programs designed to accomplish clearly defined outcomes. Investors make the initial investment into the program, then government pays for successful projects and passes on a part of the savings achieved to investors.

All SIBs are evaluated by a third party evaluator to determine if the program achieved the pre-defined outcomes.

SIB development work is underway with the departments of Health, Seniors and Active Living, Families, Justice, and Conservation and Climate.
