Recreational Camps
Recreational camps offer clients a wide variety of seasonal activities and valuable personal experiences that will last a lifetime. The Health Protection Unit assists in ensuring that recreational camps are managed in a safe and healthy manner to ensure maximum benefits with minimal chances of illness or injury. Public Health Inspectors assess the risks and put in place requirements and interventions to prevent transmission of disease and/or injury.
Operators of recreational camps are required to apply for operating permits on an annual basis and meet the requirements under the Recreational Camps Regulation (MR 327/88R) under The Public Health Act. Complete and submit the Annual Permit Application for Recreational Camps to your area public health inspector.
Public Health Inspectors receive and review the applications to ensure that all health and safety requirements are met prior to opening up for the season. Camps are required to ensure the following:
- Safe Food
- Safe Accommodations
- Safe Drinking Water
- Safe Recreational Water Activities
- Sanitary Disposal of Wastewater/Solid Wastes
- Adequate or Conveniently Available Medical Care
- Adequate Supervision of Campers
